Something you will learn to read before you learn to understand.
Here is a collection of some photographs I’ve taken over the last few years.
If you do not like insects, especially seeing them in very fine detail… I suggest you close your browser or hit the back button. lol
Quality and size range a fair bit. Will do my best to caption them all and explain the setting… but there’s 50. Page may load slowly, apologies. New to this; if I find the page doesn’t work well as I initially upload it, I will pull it down and revise as necessary. Please let me know through a comment or email if you have trouble loading it.
I don’t consider myself a photographer, though I do enjoy playing with cameras.
Note: Pictures are watermarked. I don’t mind them being used for personal reasons, but under no means shall they be used for any financial gain without the explicit consent of myself. Do feel free to contact me if you would like a copy without the watermark… as long as it is for personal use and involves no monetary gain.
This stuff was neat. It grows in areas with high moisture and salt in the air. Some trees were covered in it!
Taken in Fundy National Park.
Taken in Driftwood Provincial Park.
Taken somewhere in Cape Breton. Maybe the Skyline Trail
Beautiful insect. Cherry Faced Meadowhawk. Taken near Battersea, Ontario
Unusual bug I found at night in Driftwood Provincial Park.
Underside of unusual bug I found.
Clouds from a plane. Either to or from Vegas.
An old, or at least beat up, moth. Believe this was in Kejimkujik National Park.
Another shot from the fireworks show in Deep River, Ontario.
Deep River Summerfest Fireworks. Taken in Fireworks Mode. I missed the show to get a bunch of these.
Taken from the observation area below the waterline at Siegfried and Roy’s Magical Baby Dolphin Place or whatever the awkward name was.
This place I found to be quite sad. Enclosures were not big enough for the dolphins or the big cats in my opinion.
Dragonfly, in its Nymph stage if I’m not mistaken, eating a fly.
I had to chase it for 5 minutes to get this and it still isn’t as clear as I wanted. lol
I swear… insects and small animals like to pose for me. 🙂
This was in my backyard one morning a few years ago. There were two of them.
I love panoramic shots as well as macro. 🙂
Driftwood Bay, Driftwood Provincial Park.
Sunset over Driftwood Bay in Driftwood Provincial Park
Taken in Fundy National Park while hiking.
This was on a local hiking trail. My foot as I took a step onto an old tree. Thanks Shannon for taking the picture!
Praying Mantis again, hanging out.
This is hay wagon with a tree frog on it. Was surprised to see him there and luckily he stayed put a few minutes.
Sunset at Corney Brook Campsite in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This was probably my favourite campsite ever… in spite of being drive-in.
Believe this was a sunrise in Kejimkujik National Park
My favourite flowers. There are so many of them in Prince Edward Island!
… I believe this was in Fundy National Park.
… I have a thing for helping bugs when I can. He would’ve been a goner had I not pulled him out carefully. The spider will find more prey.
Looking at you, looking at me.
Praying Mantis I rescued from an Orb Weaver web one day at work. He posed to say thank you.
He was on my tent in Driftwood Provincial Park
These are some of my favourite pictures. They turned out incredibly well in my opinion.
Multiple Turkey Vulture. Cannot remember the correct term for a group of them offhand and I’m feeling lazy. lol
Yellow Orb Weaver. Common around here. Had a huge web. I watched this guy for a few weeks one summer at work. The truck he made his web on was covered in them… and a massive hornets nest.
An old rail switch. This is near Deep River, Ontario.
Another shot of a city lit up at night, from a plane.
Taken while flying from Las Vegas, Nevada to Buffalo New York.
Red Striped Salamander if I remember correctly.
I used to be able to catch lots of these in my hometown, but they’ve since disappeared.
I took this at a farm I used to work on. This is actually an old, portable lumber mill. He still uses it, though I never got to see it in action.
Taken on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
1CM macro of that very same spider and eggs. Taken in Driftwood Provincial Park
Perspective is everything. Love seeing insects upclose.
Since he was such a good sport (again, this is 1CM macro. Was a bit farther than the spider, but still very, very close), I repaid the favour by moving him to a nice, soggy log.
Found this little guy while out for a walk at night in Driftwood Provincial Park.
Lone Turkey Vulture searching for a meal. Taken near Battersea, Ontario
I couldn’t resist taking this during take-off. Not supposed to do that…. just couldn’t resist!
Haven’t looked up species. This was taken in an indoor garden in Vegas.
Taken outside the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Fluke. I like this one.
I’m still surprised it stayed still. So docile Taken with 1CM macro mode… the camera was basically touching it’s feet.
A Wolf Spider found while camping in Driftwood Provincial Park.
I believe this was taken at the Wynn Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. I love how it turned out.
